Goodbye, pep rally tees

In the fall of 2005, senior and Student Council president Mary Nguyen made the first pep rally t-shirt. Up until this school year, students could purchase a shirt for $10 and they would get free admission into the pep rallies. This year, however, there will be no new shirts made and students must pay $2 to receive admission.

Many students are angry with this new decision. They are frustrated because the shirts they purchased no longer have any value.

“I’d rather use the shirt,” senior Monica Martinez said.

Other students are more accepting. They feel that it’s easier to bring a couple of dollars than to remember to bring their pep rally t-shirt to school.

“There’s people who don’t have a shirt or forget it,” senior Eliza Benitez said. “[Now if] you have two dollars, you get to go. You don’t have to change your outfit for a shirt.”

Sophomore Gaby Tirado disagrees with the discontinuing of the pep rally shirts for a different reason. She feels that it does not make sense to not use the shirts because they are red and black, which are the school colors. But students who never purchased a shirt support the idea.

“I didn’t buy the shirt,” Saidy Quiroz said. “I think that it’s cool [that] now we only have to pay $2.”
