Tips for getting through senior year (without spending hundreds)

Brittany Davis, Reporter

  • Start planning early: Give yourself a budget and stick to it.
  • Seriously consider if you need to buy senior items (shirts, hoodies, class ring, etc.): Remember that senior year is only one year, so do not buy things you will not use in the future.
  • Buy the basic graduation pic package: If you do not want or care about having many pictures of yourself, do not spend money on it.
  • Get involved in fundraisers: The more money you raise for your class, the less your prom ticket will cost. Encourage your friends to do the same.
  • Stay home: Do not feel the need to attend every dance or game.
  • Do not buy from the outside lines everyday: It is more expensive and you are not getting more food than the cafeteria school lunch.
  • Utilize what you have: Bring snacks from home to avoid spending money in the vending machines.
  • Keep your phone in your pocket: If you get it taken up, you may have to pay $15 to get it back. Do not take that chance.
  • Phone a friend: Buy or borrow your prom dress from a friend that graduated earlier. No one in your class will know and your friend may give you a good deal.
  • Use coupons/codes: Your class sponsor can get you codes for discounts on tuxedos at certain formal wear shops.
  • Call your family: It is not necessary to send out graduation announcements to your family members when you can call them. It is more of a keepsake than anything else.
