Question for students: Do you like Skyward?

Over the summer GISD changed their computer system from “Mapper” to “Skyward” after using the previous system for over 15 years, causing a lot of panic and frustration for counselor Alice Lawrence and the other school counselors.

“Everyone has had to learn how to use the new system and has been trained on it,” Lawrence said.

The GISD technology department was responsible for transferring the data, like student information, credits, and GPA from the old system to the new system.

“We’ve been working on it for a month and it’s been challenging and frustrating,” Lawrence said. “It now takes longer to get things done.”

It has been especially difficult because so many students are in the wrong classes or don’t like the classes they’re in. There are also so many new students to add into the system.

“It now takes longer to change schedules,” Lawrence said. “But the more we use it the easier it gets.”
