Having a dessert craving? At Sweet Mix, the whole menu is dedicated to desserts that can be enjoyed anytime. Sweet Mix specializes in sweet crepes, waffle sandwiches, shaved snow fruit bowls and various boba teas. I sampled their “give me s’more” waffle sandwich and a regular snow.
The restaurant is located on 1181 N. Greenville Ave. in Richardson, Texas. It was quite far from my home in Rowlett, but for those who live in the North Garland area, it is a fairly quick drive. It’s kind of hidden in between restaurants, but its colorful storefront is not hard to miss.
As we walked in, I was greeted with the smell of waffles and sugar. The restaurant is quite small but has quirky architecture, like chandeliers and multi-colored polka dots on the walls. In addition to the colorful décor, there are board games to play while you wait for your order.
The “give me s’more” sandwich comes in two sizes – half and full, $4.75 and $6.25 respectively. I got the half. It was a little bigger than my palm, so it was a bit on the small side. However, its taste made up for its size. It was filled with graham crackers, chocolate chips, marshmallow crème, Nutella and chocolate syrup. I could clearly taste the chocolate chips and graham crackers, while the marshmallow crème gave it a nice touch. It tasted amazing for its size, but I’m not sure if I would pay $4.95 for a sandwich the size of my palm.
The regular snow comes with three fruits, one scoop of ice cream and condensed milk drizzled on the ice. I got strawberry, pineapple and mango with vanilla ice cream. It comes in a big bowl with the fruit and ice cream on top. The presentation is nice, and they even add a watermelon heart to the top. But the taste wasn’t anything special. The fruit was perfectly soft when on the top, but when mixed in with the ice, it became mushy. The ice with condensed milk was sweetened just right, but it became tasteless while I was eating. The cup was pretty big and can be shared with one or even two people. For $5.25, it’s a better deal than the waffle sandwich, but I still prefer the waffle sandwich.
Overall, Sweet Mix has a massive selection of unique desserts that taste delicious, but are a little pricey. However, its décor and unique concept make up for it. I recommend you try it with a friend and with plenty of cash on hand.
