A space elevator to the moon is said to be not only feasible, but cheap. According to a paper published by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a lunar space elevator system could be able to pay for itself within 53 trips by getting materials from the moon to a space station nestled between the moon and Earth. Students were asked if they were offered the opportunity to hitch a ride from the Earth to the moon, if they would do it.
